Instructions
Step 1:
Gather Your Supplies Gather your materials: a shallow tray or container (with drainage holes), organic soil or growing medium, microgreen seeds of your choice, a spray bottle for watering, and a light source.
Step 2:
Prepare the Tray Fill the tray with 1-2 inches of moistened soil or growing medium, ensuring it’s evenly spread and level.
Step 3:
Sow the Seeds Evenly scatter the microgreen seeds over the surface of the soil. Try not to overcrowd; a dense layer of seeds inhibits growth.
Step 4:
Cover and Press Cover the seeds lightly with a thin layer of soil or a damp paper towel. Gently press down to ensure good seed-to-soil contact.
Step 5:
Watering Using a spray bottle, thoroughly moisten the soil without causing water pooling. Maintain moisture without soaking the seeds excessively.
Step 6:
Provide Proper Drainage Ensure the tray has proper drainage to prevent waterlogging. Empty excess water from the tray’s bottom or use a tray with holes to allow drainage.
Step 7:
Create Humidity Cover the tray with a lid or plastic wrap to create a greenhouse-like environment that retains moisture. Ensure the covering allows for air circulation.
Step 8:
Provide Adequate Light Place the tray in a warm, well-lit area but avoid direct sunlight at this stage. Use a grow light if natural light isn’t sufficient.
Step 9:
Maintain Moisture Regularly mist the seeds once or twice a day to keep the soil consistently moist. Check for any signs of mold or excessive moisture.
Step 10:
Harvesting In about 7-14 days, when the microgreens have reached the desired height (usually 1-3 inches), it’s time to harvest! Use scissors to cut above the soil level and enjoy your homegrown microgreens in salads, sandwiches, or as garnishes.
Remember, experimentation with different seeds and growing conditions can enhance your microgreen growing experience. Enjoy the process and the delicious, nutritious results!
